Taking the Plunge

So why am I here?

I’m a school library media specialist in rural Vermont, and I’ve had a blog for almost a year for my library: The RES Library News. The intended audience for that blog is children and parents from my school, and I publish news about activities in the library as well as occasional book reviews, student work, and links of interest for students and their families. If I think those posts will be interesting to my PLN, I also Tweet them from my Twitter account: @bethredford

But I’ve been feeling the need for a place to publish longer, more reflective pieces intended for other librarians and teachers, and I’m going to try this new space out. I’ll be giving my first professional presentation at Vermont’s Dynamic Landscapes conference in May, and I plan to publish my preso here..also anything else interesting I find along the way. I’ve learned a huge amount in the last year from the blogs of teacher librarians who generously share their ideas with the world, and I’m hoping I can pay that forward just a little. Time to dive in!

  1. Congrats on starting your professional blog. I’m doing the opposite. For a class, another Media Specialist and I created our blog as more of a professional blog. It’s become mainly my blog because she hasn’t had a lot of time to post. But I’m in the process of setting up a blog for my Media Center. I’ve got it created, but can’t do anything with it just yet. I’ve got to wait until my county does a few things so that I can use my school email account, not my personal account. Best of luck and I’ll keep checking to see what you’ve posted.
